Math: This week students began work in our fourth unit, Addition and Subtraction Facts to 12.  Students are thinking about using mental math as well as taught strategies to solve problems with 0, 1, and 2.  We are also exploring doubles and near doubles and their relationship.

On Thursday we took a break from regular math instruction for an afternoon of Frankenstein math games and activities.  We had a great time!

Phonics:  We are continuing work in our fourth unit which focused on the bonus letter spelling rule and the glued sound “all” for reading and spelling like the word ball.  We are also adding the trick words you, your, I, they, was, one and said.

Religion: We are following the works of Jesus.  This week students finished their study of Jesus and the Holy family as role models.  We also spent time learning about the Saints.  We enjoyed learning more about each child’s name and saints connected to their names.

Science:   This week we did a fun pumpkin science and math enrichment.  Students were asked to measure, estimate, and study pumpkins for different properties.  Next week we will begin a larger science unit, Pebbles, Sand and Silt.

Have a great weekend!
