Abby placed each substance alone on single pebbles to see if one material alone would alter the tarnished and worn appearance of an older penny. When she found no result, she mixed salt and vinegar together on a single penny and saw a chemical reaction. This chemical reaction changed the appearance of the penny and made it shine again!
