Math: We completed work in our eighth unit, Tens and Ones with an assessment on Wednesday.  We began to look out the material in our ninth unit, Comparing and Ordering Numbers to 100.  In this unit, we will focus on identifying 1more and 1 less, 10 more and 10 less, making numbers on a hundreds chart, and comparing and ordering numbers using the >, =, < symbols.

Writing: As we work with students to increase the quality and quantity of their journal writing and writing work in the classroom, a great way to practice over vacation is a vacation journal.  Whether you are staying here or traveling far, students should be encouraged to write a bit about their vacation activities.

Phonics: We are nearing the end of unit eight, which focuses on consonant blends, digraph blends, and the r controlled vowels; er, ir, ur, ar, and or.  After vacation we will spend several days reviewing these skills and have our assessment.  Up next we will not introduce a new spelling pattern, but rather introduce the concept of open and closed syllables.  Mat is an example of a closed syllable word since the vowel is closed in by a consonant.  Ski is an example of an open syllable.

Religion:  Students are continuing to explore Lent in this unit.  We are encouraging students to talk about what they will be doing for Lent with their families.

Enjoy your vacation.
