Upcoming Scientist of the Week: Alana
We had a very busy week with our 101st
day celebration and a visit from Walpole Dental! We are looking forward to National Reading
Week next week. Below is the schedule
for next week.
Monday February 29: Crazy Sock
Day. Since it’s crazy that there are
29 days in February this year, let’s celebrate Leap Day by wearing crazy socks!
Thursday 3/3: Character Dress-Up Day. Students come dressed as their favorite book character.
Math: We are wrapping up work in our ninth unit, Comparing and
Ordering Numbers to 100. We will
conclude this unit with an assessment on Wednesday. Up next in unit ten is Adding With Tens and
Ones. In this unit we will continue
using the hundreds chart as a tool to solve +/- 1 and 10 as well as move to
using mental math to solve. Keep up the
math fact practice!
Phonics: We began unit nine late this week. In unit nine we are exploring the concept of closed syllable. We know a word is a closed syllable when it has one short vowel closed in by a consonant at the end. Closed syllable word examples are bath, such, and it. Examples of words that are not closed syllables are she and boat.
Religion: Students will be exploring Holy Week and Stations of the
Cross in religion over the next few weeks as we prepare for Easter.
Writing: The
spring in first grade is all about writing!
We worked very hard to create our “Dive Into a Good Book” writing pieces
for our bulletin board. Students wrote
their first drafts independently.
Students then worked with a teacher to edit their draft for trick words
and punctuation. The rest was right from
the kids. Come check them out!
Have a fun weekend!
