Upcoming Star of the Week: Whitley
Upcoming Scientist of the Week: Kalli Aerin
Math: We are working in our fourth unit,
Addition and Subtraction Facts to
12. Students are using ten-frames to explain their thinking and evaluate
number relationships. At home,
practicing math facts through sums of 20 with a focus on doubles facts is a
great way to support your child’s growth in math this fall.
We had fun on Wednesday afternoon
playing Halloween math games. The sheets
that came home from your child’s work can be easily replicated for you to play
at home, along with a stack of cards up to 20.
Phonics: This week in phonics we wrapped up unit three, which
focused on digraphs. On Thursday we
began our fourth unit which focuses on the bonus letters spelling rule (pill, cuff, fuss) and the glued
sound all like in the word ball.
·
To mark or signify bonus letters in our
word work, we star the bonus letter.
·
To mark or signify glued sounds in our
word work, we box the glued sound.
Science: Next week we will begin a unit of
exploration; Solids, Liquids and Gas.
This study will take us through Christmas break. We will also spend some time on Monday doing
some pumpkin math and science activities.
Religion: We continue to learn about Jesus and his life with his
family. We are comparing our lives today
to the life of Jesus. Up next we will
focus on Jesus and his teachings about God.
I look forward to discussing your
child’s progress at conferences next week!
