Here are some curriculum updates:
Math: We began our tenth unit, Adding with Tens and Ones on
Monday. Topics covered are adding groups
of 10, adding tens on a 100s chart, adding tens to two digit numbers, and using
mental math to add tens. This is a quick
unit which will wrap up next Monday. Up
next is Subtracting with Tens and Ones.
Phonics: We completed work in our eighth unit which focused on blends and r controlled vowels. Students had an assessment on this unit today. Our next unit will not introduce a new spelling pattern, but will teach about the closed syllable concept with short vowels, explore closed vs. open syllables, and introduce vowel teams for reading. This unit will span two weeks.
Writing: As we work with students to increase the quality and quantity of their writing work in the classroom, a great way to practice through a weekly journal. In our classroom journals we encourage the exploration of even everyday events. This week we are working on fun writing pieces for the 101st day. Look for them next week!
Religion: Students are continuing to explore Lent in this unit. We are encouraging students to talk about
what they will be doing for Lent with their families.
