Math: This week students have worked to find the missing parts of 6, 7, 8, and 9. During the second half of this week we have worked to write subtraction number sentences and have worked on stories about taking away.  Next week we will work on stories about missing parts, connecting models and symbols to subtraction, and subtraction problem solving.

Phonics:  On Monday we began our second unit which focuses on blending and segmenting three sound words with a review on tapping as a skill, sentence dictation procedures and story retelling.  This unit will also introduce our first sight words.  We call these sight words “trick words” in FUNdations.

Reading: Guided Reading groups will begin during the first week of October.  Next week will work to identify character traits with A Bad Case of Stripes.  Look below on the blog for our first lesson with this skill using Chrysanthemum.

Religion: In Religion we have been learning about the Trinity.  We are celebrating the feast of St. Francis and have been learning about St. Francis as a role model.

Science: We continued our study of the five senses this week with exploration of taste.  We explored the different taste words sour, sweet, spicy, salty, and tart.  Some pictures from our lesson are below.

Have a great weekend!
