1A has begun studying the elements of literature. We have begun with character and the idea of character traits. Last week I introduced a story called The Terrible Horrible Sweater That Grandma Knit. We talked about how we could describe the character, Cameron physically, by looking at his outside. We then moved to a discussion of how we could describe him on the inside; hard working, kind, loving, etc.
Yesterday we continued using the idea of internal character traits with the familiar book, Chrysanthemum. Using a list of first grade friendly character traits, we found many different traits that fit with the main character, Chrysanthemum. Each child chose a trait and cited evidence that proved she embodied the trait that they chose. The kids did a great job! Come check out our new bulletin board!
