Moose Hill: We will be traveling to Moose Hill next Tuesday, October, 7th.  We will depart school by bus at 8:30 and will return by 12:15.  Students should bring a bag lunch, snack and water bottle for the trip.  This trip is weather dependent.  Students should wear their gym uniform and dress for fall weather in the woods.

Upcoming Star of the Week:  Lauren

Math: We are nearly done work in our second unit, Understanding Subtraction.  This week we worked with stories about missing parts, and subtraction problem solving through acting out problems.  We will complete a unit assessment early next week.  Up next is our third unit, Five and Ten Relationships.  We will begin by representing numbers in a ten-frame, recognizing numbers in a ten-frame, and exploring parts that make up ten.

Phonics:  We are nearly done in our second unit, which focuses on three sound short vowel words, punctuation and proofreading procedures, and trick words.  We will have an assessment on these skills early next week.  Our third unit will focus on digraphs, which is two letters working together to make one sound like in the word ship.

Religion: In Religion we discussed guardian angels both in class and during our school mass.  We are nearly done with our study of the Trinity.

Science:  We enjoyed a final lesson of our five senses with an exploration of smell.  This was a very fun exploration, as students found that many smells are familiar, but tricky to decipher.  Our work with the five senses over the past month has prepared us for exploration of the five senses in nature at Moose Hill next week.

Guided Reading:  We will begin Guided Reading next week.  The information that I gathered about student reading levels through the Fountas and Pinnell Benchmark Assessment has helped me place students in small groups for direct reading instruction.  Mrs. Arbuckle and I will work with students several times during the week using books are at your child’s reading level.

Have a great weekend!
