Math: This week, we worked in our seventh unit, Counting and
Number Patterns to 120. On Tuesday, students
will complete an assessment on this topic.
At home, you can practice skip counting with your child to support
understanding in this unit. Counting
orally by 10s to 120, and then working down to smaller skip counting numbers
like 2 and 5 will help your child understand number relationships. You can also pick any number under 100 and ask your child to count back by ones from this number. Up next is unit eight, Tens and Ones.
Phonics: We are continuing work in our seventh unit, which
covers additional glued sounds. Students
are working with ang, ing, ung, and ong, ink, unk, onk, ank. Today we introduced adding the suffix s
ending to our new glued sounds like in honks. We will have an assessment on this topic next
week. Other topics covered in this unit
are blending and segmenting the “ng” and “nk” sounds, narrative fiction vs.
informational books, and reading with accuracy and prosody. We will have a unit assessment on
Monday. Up next in our eighth unit will
be blends and r controlled vowels.
Science: This
week we wrapped up our study of solids and liquids with a final solids
experiment. Students explored liquids in
bottles and identified properties of each liquid. We then compared and contrasted each bottle
using our new science terms: bubbly, foamy, transparent, translucent, viscous,
and colored.
Religion: We have begun work in our eighth unit, which focuses on the
followers of Jesus. Students are
learning about the meaning of the Our Father prayer.
Enjoy your weekend!
