Scientist of the Week: Julian

Math: This week, we completed our unit on subtraction with an assessment on Wednesday.  We began unit seven, Counting and Number Patterns to 120.  This unit will focus on using a hundreds chart, skip counting with familiar numbers and using “friendly” numbers to help us solve problems.

Phonics:  Next week we will enter our third week of unit seven, covering additional glued sounds (nk and ng).  We will begin adding the suffix s ending to words with these sounds.  Our assessment will be in just over a week.  Up next in our eighth unit will be blends and digraph blends, like in the words slip and shrink.

Science: We will work next week with liquids in bottles for a final solids and liquids experiment.  Students will explore the way in which liquids with various properties move with certain actions.  Students will compare and contrast the movements of the different liquids.

Guided Reading: I am working through each child’s benchmark reading assessment.  This means that students will be placed in a new group with material and activities at their independent reading level.  At home, students should read each night to ensure success!

Religion:  We have begun work in our ninth unit, which focuses on Holy Week.

Enjoy your weekend!
