First
grade students in 1A have been busy this week learning more about making
predictions.  Making predictions is an important skill for first graders
to have command over as we are all able to read and comprehend in Guided Reading groups.  To lead
meaningful discussions in reading groups, students are often asked to
make a prediction about what might happen next, as well as provide
evidence to support their prediction.
We used the book The Napping House
to make page by page predictions as a group.  Students generated many
possible predictions for each page of the story and I recorded them on
chart paper.  Next, students chose three different pages in the book to
record a prediction, the clue that helped them make that prediction, and
a confirmation of weather or not their prediction was correct.  It is
was not correct, students were asked to record what actually occurred in
 the story.
Check out these great examples of student work!
