Upcoming Star of the Week:  John S.

Math: On Wednesday we began unit ten, Adding with Tens and Ones.  In this unit we will continue using the hundreds chart as a tool to solve +/- 1 and 10 as well as move to using mental math to solve.
We are so happy to see so many students improving with their math facts.  Thank you for the practice you are doing at home!

Religion:  Students are exploring the Stations of the Cross and are making connections between Holy Thursday and Good Friday.

Phonics: We are continuing work in our ninth unit.  This does not introduce a new spelling pattern, but will teach about the closed syllable concept with short vowels, explore closed vs. open syllables, and introduce vowel teams for reading.  This unit will span two weeks.  Look for the “Fred the Frog” short story in your child’s bag early next week.  This story has been “scooped” for phrasing, and your child can fluently read this passage independently.

Reading/Writing: Please check out the blog below to see our recent lesson on making prediction using The Napping House.  Students were asked to think critically about realistic predictions.  Students then recorded their predictions and listed the clues that lead them to make their choice.  After reading we explored the ways in which some of our predictions became reality and some predictions were different than the outcome.
