Weekly Update May 6th

Important Dates/Events:

·         Friday, May 20th- Mary Day Mass 10:00
·         Friday, May 27th—No School
·         Monday, May 30th—No school

Math: We continue work in our unit, Using Data to Answer Questions.  We are working to interpret and create real, picture and bar graphs as a tool to organize information. After our assessment next week, we will begin Geometry.  We begin with exploring plane shapes, making an organized list, and building with shapes.

Please keep up with math fact practice at home!

Phonics: In phonics we are continue to master the long vowel sounds and the vowel-consonant-e syllable type for reading and spelling.  Students are working hard to “mark up” these words as they are required to recognize numerous parts of words.  We will wrap this unit up by the middle of May.

Social Development: Check out the blog post below about bucket filling, a social development initiative focusing on how our actions impact others.  The kids are so excited to begin work with this idea in May!

Religion:  Students have been learning about the Pentecost over the past week.  On Tuesday students had an assessment on this topic.  We are thinking about the ways that the Holy Spirit can help us in our daily lives.

Science:  When students return to school next week, the caterpillars will likely be in their chrysalis.  In several weeks we will schedule a trip to Adam’s Farm for a butterfly release and picnic.  I will send out the final details on this as we solidify plans.

Happy Mother’s Day!
