Students in 1A are working to be bucket fillers. This means that
students are working to do nice things for their classmates to fill
their bucket. We teach students that though we cannot see it, each
individual is carrying around an invisible bucket. When we do something
nice for someone, we fill their bucket and ours. When we do something
that is unkind, we dip into the bucket of others and ourselves. This
idea is based on the work of Carol McCloud. You can find out more about
this program here:

Students have made their own buckets for our bulletin board and are working to fill each others buckets over the next few weeks. Students will record the kind actions or behavior that others have done to fill their buckets and record kind actions that they have shown to others.
Out with our buckets are student writing samples explaining they ways in which they already are a bucket filler and the ways in which they can become one this spring. Come by and check it out!
