Weekly Update November 14th

Thank you for taking the time to meet with Mrs. Arbuckle and myself for conferences over the past week!  We appreciate your dedication to your child’s education.  We are approaching cold weather!  Be sure to send your child in with winter gear.

Important Dates/Events:
·         Tuesday, November 25th– Thanksgiving Celebration 12:30-1:30
·         Wednesday, November 26th-Sunday, December 30th—Thanksgiving Break

Student Council Food Drive: First grade is collecting ketchup, mustard and mayonnaise as well as frequently needed items like toilet paper and laundry supplies.

Upcoming Star of the Week:  Olivia Roy

Math: Students are continuing work in our fifth unit, Addition Facts to 20.  We will wrap this unit up next week with an assessment and move to our sixth unit, Subtraction Facts to 20.

Phonics:  On Friday we had our unit five assessment, which covered the glued sounds “am” and “an” like in pan and ham.  Look for your child's assessment early next week.  On Monday we will begin the suffix s ending like in the word hills.  Students will also learn that s can say the z sound.

Religion: We are continuing discussion of the Great Commandment.  Students are working to explore how we can apply the Great Commandment in their daily lives.

Writing: Students have been working on their November portfolio writing pieces which include their favorite Thanksgiving traditions.  Students are working to edit and revise their writing through correct application of trick words and punctuation.

Guided Reading:  In Guided Reading, all students will begin a new book next week.  Each group has now worked with a fiction and a non-fiction text.  We are enjoying reading groups very much!

Enjoy the weekend.
