Upcoming Star of the Week:  Jack Herman

Math: We are wrapping up work in our eleventh unit, Subtracting with Tens and Ones.  Topics covered in this unit are subtracting tens on a hundreds chart, subtracting ten from two-digit numbers, using mental math to subtract tens, subtracting from a two-digit number, and drawing a picture and writing your own subtraction number sentences.  Up next will be our twelfth unit, Length.

Religion:  Students will be exploring Holy Week and Stations of the Cross in religion over the next few weeks as we prepare for Easter.

Phonics: We are working in unit nine to understand the concept of closed syllables.  We are exploring this concept so that students are familiar with the meaning of closed syllables before the introduction of multisyllabic word spelling patterns as well as the long vowel sounds.

Writing: The spring in first grade is all about writing!  We worked very hard to create our “101 Days Smarter” writing pieces for our bulletin board.  Students wrote their first drafts independently.  Students then worked with a teacher to edit their draft for trick words and punctuation.  The rest was right from the kids.  Come check them out!

Have a fun weekend!
