Phonics: In phonics we are wrapping up our ninth unit, which focuses on closed syllables.  Our assessment on this topic will be on Monday.  Up next will be unit ten, which focuses on five sound words and the suffix endings of ed and ing.  This unit will span three weeks.

Math: On Thursday, we completed our eleventh unit, Subtracting with Tens and Ones.  On Thursday we began our twelfth unit, Length.  This unit will focus on comparing and ordering by length, indirect measurement, using units to estimate and measure length, and measuring using different units.  This unit will span two weeks.
We are so happy to see so many students improving with their math facts.  Thank you for the practice you are doing at home!

Religion:  Students are exploring the Stations of the Cross and are making connections between Holy Thursday and Good Friday.

Writing: Students did a fun lesson this week about stretching sentences and ideas.  We began with the sentence, “The cat sat.” Students added on to this sentence three times, ending with a “juicy” sentence with greater detail.  As we move ahead, we are looking for more detailed sentences in journal and portfolio writing.
