We had a
great and busy week back to school! If
you have time, check out our melting snowmen bulletin board!
Upcoming Star of the Week: Joshua
Reading: This
week I began assessments using the Fountas and Pinnell Benchmark Assessment
System. To find out more about these
assessments check out this page on my blog: http://mrsleary1a.blogspot.com/p/benchmark-reading-assessments.html. If you would like
to know more about your child’s independent reading level please let me know.
Math: This week, we continued work in our sixth unit, Subtraction
Facts to 20. This unit has focused on making
tens to subtract, using related facts to solve problems, and using fact families
to identify relationships between addition and subtraction. Our assessment will be next Wednesday. Up next will be Counting and Number Patterns
to 120. Please keep up math fact practice!
Phonics: We have just completed the first week of our unit which
was an introduction to the glued sound ang, ing, ung, and ong. Next week students will be introduced to ank,
ink, unk, and onk. Other topics covered
in this unit are blending and segmenting the “ng” and “nk” sounds, narrative
fiction vs. informational books, and reading with accuracy and prosody. We will have an assessment on this topic two
weeks.
Religion: We have ended our study of the Christmas season with the
baptism of Jesus. This week we had a
special mass, where students shared in the baptism of two children in the BSS
community. Next week we will begin our
eighth unit, which focuses on the followers of Jesus. Students will explore how they can be
followers of Jesus.
Enjoy your weekend!
